Driven by the UK government to restrict the use of rebated fuels as part of it’s target to achieve net zero by 2050, red diesel (also known as 35 second oil), although still available, will be greatly restricted in its usage.

Powrmatic oil-fired heaters are only designed for operation with either certified Gas Oil to BS2869 Class A2 or D, (referred to as 35 sec Oil’ or ‘Red Diesel’), HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and Kerosene to BS2869 Class C2, (also referred to as ‘28 sec Oil’). Riello Burners Ltd, the manufacturer of the oil-fired burners used on our appliances, have tested and approved the use with only these specific type of fuels.

Powrmatic are not able to confirm the suitability of any alternative blended industrial heating oil used to fuel their appliances. Such fuels tend to burn hotter, increasing the likelihood to fatigue and eventual failure of the heat exchanger and, as such will affect the warranty on the appliance.

If customers insist on using an alternative blended industrial heating oil, we would suggest contacting their fuel supplier and obtaining a written guarantee that there would be no adverse impact on our appliance that has operated trouble-free with BS2869 standard heating oil. Should a written guarantee be obtained and the customer decides to use an alternative blended industrial heating oil, we would further recommend setting the unit up for 28 sec to assist with the additional heat, but it would be used at the customer’s own risk.
